    We assist Small to Medium Enterprises (SMEs) who suspect, or have uncovered, financial fraud to investigate what has occurred. You may believe your employees have committed fraud or you may be suspicious of what your Finance and/or Accounting Team(s) are reporting to you. Do you suspect corporate credit card fraud, phoney invoices, inflated invoices, the Financial Reports prepared for you don’t make sense, the money showing in your bank account(s) doesn’t seem to tally with the Sales you know you have made. Your financial statement external audit may not be designed to forensically look out all your systems, databases, reports, documentation and records to determine what has occurred - but We can do that for you.     We are most suited to small and medium sized enterprises who don't need the complexity and hefty costs that major accounting firms will have for the same work. 

    We have  experience working with various clients  including charities, healthcare, sole traders, construction, and retail.

    Yes, we provide remote services to clients.  We can access most records remotely. However, if needed we can  work on site. We are based in Canberra.

    When you suspect financial fraud within your business but do not have the tools or financial expertise to fully uncover it and document it. We know how financial fraud is committed within SMEs whether it is basic fake invoices, inflated payroll, fake employees, fake suppliers, misuse of corporate credit cards, hiding of expenses in the Balance Sheet, fake inventory, fake customers - we have seen it all and know how to uncover it.

    They are very expensive. SMEs sadly do not have a minimum of $30k for a forensic accounting service from a major Accounting Firm that needs to cover their very high overheads and levels of management. Perhaps they may send out a recent graduate to do the job, or have never worked at the “front line” of working in and managing an actual Finance/Accounting team at a SME as Guardian Forensic Accountants has. 

    If you engage us after the initial chat, we will do an initial free consultation of at least 3 -4 hours talking with relevant staff, scoping out the concerns and issues you have, discovering your programs, systems and processes before putting forward a Full Proposal.

    If engaged we will require access to your relevant systems and records (such as access to your Accounting program) so we can start investigating. A sample of what we will do includes: reviewing your financial transactions to get a sense of the volume and type of transactions, reviewing Invoices, HR records, checking suppliers, looking at all transactions on your bank accounts (looking for patterns and discrepancies), reviewing Balance Sheet entries for hidden or false Items, checking inventory, reviewing historical entries and Actuals to Budget to uncover potential anomalies. Unlike an external audit we don’t rely on Samples, we look at everything that is needed.

    We are not the Police, although we can prepare documentation for them. We are not cyber security experts (we may discover you have been hacked but you will need an IT Cyber expert to seal any leaks). We are NOT the same as external auditors - we focus on uncovering financial fraud. We are not the same as an Internal Audit. Although we can make recommendations on improving your policies, processes and systems, this comes after finding any fraud. We are NOT Private Investigators but depending on what has occurred at your business we may need to discuss hiring a PI - for example following staff to determine if they frequent gambling services.

    If you believe your management is committing fraud (i.e. you are the Finance Team and you think Management is stealing money from the organisation) it will be hard for us to investigate as we will need access to various systems and databases. But talk to us for some options

    Owner and CEO Gregory has worked for many organisations over the years and sadly always uncovered fraud by current or previous employees. Often as basic as the Finance Officer creating a fake invoice with their bank accounts that the Manager was too busy to check or simply changing the Payroll Details Report to hide a different amount paid to them. The Police would not investigate without a comprehensive dossier that would lead to a definite charge. Major Accounting firms would often quote around $30-$40k for a simple investigation - sometimes more than the Loss involved. With his hands-on and frontline experience coupled with a stint at the Financial Regulator, Guardian Forensic Accountants was started to assist SMEs uncover what had happened to their Income.
